In Colombia, an estimated 334,000 children fall victim to sexual violence every year. But where the state fails, committed citizens take its place and stand up for the well-being of children. This is also the case for the foundation "Casa de Dios Zoe" in Chía, near the Colombian capital Bogotá. Led by award-winning educator María Paola Franceschi Suescún, this project actively supports more than 280 infants, children and young people in various programs. The aim of the project is to break the existing spiral of violence by providing safe spaces and educational support, thereby giving these children positive outlook for the future.
In this interview, the head of the foundation describes the foundation's work. She discusses the most important challenges and eplains how the children can be helped.
The foundation has hardly any administrative expenses. Thanks to local volunteers and material donations from the community, the cost base is very low and all donations go directly to the children. The foundation's management also has proven pedagogical expertise in the field of child/youth care.
The self-run children's home can accommodate up to 100 children (sometimes together with their mothers).
Up to 180 other children can accept the support of volunteer social workers outside the home and receive educational support on site in their families.
The head of the foundation will take you on a guided tour of the children's home facilities. You get a good impression of the conditions under which the children live and are cared for.

My mission is to provide personalized care for children, adolescents and families who have been victims of maltreatment, violence and sexual abuse. I want the children to grow up to be happy, loving and productive individuals.
In my work, I see each child as a unique individual and take into account the specific needs of each one.
I want to raise awareness in Colombian society so that more and more people are committed to stopping these crimes from happening.
